Questions & Answers
How does CasePerformance differ from other sites?

As you can see by looking at this site, we do not litter our pages with advertisements or sponsors. Nothing frustrates me more than jumping on a website or reading a performance based training magazine and finding that it's nothing more than sales propaganda.

Also, in contrast to other sites, we do not restrict access to our articles to only those with a paid membership. They are available for free to everyone.

Why not include advertisements, sponsors or make it a membership based site?

We will not make this a paid membership based website for one reason: our goal is to help as many individuals as possible reach their goals. We all recall what it's like having to be a college student trying to cough up enough money to cover the week's food bill. Paying for a $30-40+ site membership was simply not an option. The last thing we want to see is someone being unable to access the article section of this site for similar financial reasons. If you look at the mission of CasePerformance, not once does it say "...and make a lot of money..." Rather, the goal of this site is to assist you on your journey toward peak performance.

Will it always stay this way?

Here at CasePerformance, we are going to do everything we can to ensure that the site stays free of advertisements or paid memberships. However, please be aware that there are many fees associated with running this site. Full access to the large variety of scientific journals used to write the articles on this site is extremely expensive. To help offset these costs, we humbly accept donations. Click on the Support Us tab for more information.

What makes your articles different from the thousands of others posted online?

Simple, our articles are based on peer reviewed scientific research. Furthermore, we reference all of our claims. It’s always frustrating to read an article that says "Based off research..." or "Studies have clearly shown that supplement X..." yet no actual peer reviewed journals are cited. This will never happen at CasePerformance. If we say that there is research supporting a topic, we'll give you the exact source of our claim. Additionally, we are honest with our writings. You will never see us take the idea of another author and claim it to be our own (ie - plagarism). We 100% beleive in giving credit to where credit is due.

All this talk about peer reviewed scientific evidence has me nervous. Are these articles geared towards those with backgrounds in science or for the average individual looking to enchance their training?

The articles are designed for everyone. Yes, we may dig a little deeper than some individuals are used to reading, but key features are present in our articles to help bring everything together. These include "Quick Hit Summaries", graphs/figures, key findings in bold and a "Bottom Line" conclusion to pull everything together. Also, while reading an article, if you run across a word you're not familiar with, be sure to check out our glossary section. It can be found and the top, right hand corner of every article, sandwiched between the title and the opening "Quick Hit Summary"/opening segment box.

Are all of your articles research based?

In general, all of our articles are based on scientific research. However, we also have editorial based articles that focus on certain individual training philosophies, etc.

What exactly are the articles in your "Consumer Savvy" section about?

There are a thousand supplements on the market today. As with all things, some are legitimate whereas others are nothing more than snake oil. Although we review the reseach supporting/refuting the use of some supplements (in a general sense, not specific name brands) it'd be impossible to cover them all. Thus, this portion of the website is dedicated to teaching others how to teach themselves. This section includes tutorials on evaluating dietary supplements, using Pubmed, recognizing the presence of a placebo effect and understanding research in general. Due to the high demand of you, the readers, we have also assembled these articles into an ebook and obtainable for free (Be A Savvy Consumer: Do Your Homework!) by signing up for our free newsletter, see below.

What is the history of CasePerformance's tagline For Sport, For Life?

My father, (Sean Casey speaking here), swam at the university level back in the 1970's. One of the most important things my dad took from that experience, which he has shared with me on many occasions is something his head swim coach told him. According to my father, his university swim coach would say, "Life is not about sports; sports are about life." Let's break that comment down a little.... .

"Life is not about sports..." In other words, your life should not dwell 100% around sports; Your life should be bigger/more rounded than that of just being an athlete. Yes, at times, training/sport may account for the large majority of your attention span. However, even in the peak of your competitive season, there should be more to you than just sport. Sport should be balanced by other things - family, friends, hobbies, etc.

"Sports are about life..." You should take the lessons learned from sport and apply them to life (i.e. - importance of hard work, determination, respect, resilience, integrity, building relationships etc). In doing so, you'll not only have the building blocks for a successful career, but more importantly, the game plan for personal growth and passion in life as well. Unless you're in control of these latter characteristics, the dedication to training will fall apart.

Hearing my dad repeat this over and over again, the idea really of "What you're doing now isn't just for sport, it's for life" stuck with me. Over time, after talking with a former colleague, this developed into the mantra, and now tagline,"For Sport, For Life."

How can we be a part of the CasePerformance community?

Just sign up for our free newsletter and you'll automatically become a part of this community. Yes, there is a catch you need to be aware of...you'll have to accept 3 free e-books as a token of our appreciation. The first one will cover the latest research on various post workout recovery modalities (cold baths, contrast baths, compression gear, etc). The second of these ebooks discusses the latest research on Human Growth Hormone and examines the following questions... Does it reverse the aging process? Will it increase muscle size? Will it help me recover faster following an injury? As discussed above, the 3rd ebook is the collection of articles in our Consumer Savvy/Understanding Research section in an ebook format. *NOTE*, although the information in this 3rd ebook can be found elsewhere on this site, the information in the first 2 ebooks (HGH, Post Workout Recovery Techniques) can only be obtained on CasePerformance by signing up for the newsletter.

I want to stress, this is a MONTHLY newsletter. In other words, you don't have to worry about us flooding your email inbox with messages. Also, you will not receive spam from us promoting any nutritional supplement or exercise products. As aforementioned, WE ARE NOT SALESMEN!

Besides signing up for this newsletter, you can view updates by following us on Twitter or looking us up on Facebook. Check out our community page for more information.

I signed up for your newsletter but did not receive my 3 free gifts. What is going on??

Check your spam mail account. Depending on how tight your email security is, your system may recognize emails from CasePerformance as SPAM and automatically filter our mailings into your "Junk" folder. To prevent this from happening, be sure to add our newsletter email address to your "safe" sender/contact list.

What is CasePerformance's privacy policy?

CasePerformance will never sell, trade or otherwise transfer any personal information to outside parties for any reason... unless they pay us a lot of money. Just kidding!!! We have the utmost respect for your privacy and would NEVER consider selling it.

Do you have a forum or anything set up that we can discuss your articles on?

No, we do not have a traditional forum set up at this point in time. However, if you go to the CasePerformance Facebook page you can post a message on the wall and a discussion will be set up for that specific article. In 2011 we will be setting up a forum for the site.

Do you offer any direct nutrition and/or training consultations?

Our site will feature personalized training (running only) and nutrition programs. We also offer phone consultations (strength training, running and nutrition). Although there will be a charge for this service, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Our primary goal is to make you a better athlete; not become millionaires.

What separates your online running/nutrition programs from all the other ones out there?

Simple, we believe in the "human touch" with respect to our training/nutrition programs. This is not a simple punch in your data and we spit out a program type of a service. After discussing your goals over the phone, we'll design a program to meet your needs. From there, we'll send you a training program and provide you with our email address if quick questions arise. A month later, we'll follow up with a short phone call to make sure everything is going alright.

On your service page, I see that you offer multiple options for each of your training and nutrition services. Can you explain the differences?

The first service that we offer is just a direct phone consultation. In these conversations, you are free to pick the brain of our staff members for ideas on how you can improve upon your current program.

The second service is the full training program which was detailed in the preceding question.

What happens if during the basic phone consultation, we realize our training or nutrition program needs a complete overhaul...Can we upgrade from a basic phone consultation to the full training or nutrition program without being charged for both?

Certainly, we'll just deduct the cost of the phone consult from the full training or nutrition program. You just have to pay the remaining balance.
